Going on a Walk
Walking is something that I rarely do. I have never been the type to just get up and go on a walk. I have this weird perception of walking. I think it’s slow, cumbersome and pointless. When having to go anywhere, even if it’s within a block or two, I am sad to admit that walking doesn’t even cross my mind. To be honest, in Wisconsin people don’t walk anywhere and when they do, it’s only out of necessity. But the moment that I moved to Oregon a lot things changed for me and one of them was this habit of walking. Oregonians have a passion for the outdoors and where does that passion start… walking.

I can’t count how many people I have seen walking since I have been here. People out here find excuses to go on walk, it’s amazing to me! I knew God sent me to Oregon for the better. I had no idea part of that was walking.
But while digging through to bible, you come to find out that God loves walking. In fact, He mentions walking over 250 times in the Old Testament and just under 100 in the New Testament. Yes, it’s both literal and figuratively. But you would be surprised at how much He values the idea of walking.
2 Cor 5:7 - For we walk by faith, not by sight.
Micah 6:8 - He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?
Col 2:6 - Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him,
1 John 2:6 - Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him,
That just scratches the surface of how God values the idea of walking. There are hundreds of instances of Him telling us to walk with something or someone. Walking with God is essential to the christian experience and one that isn’t talked about enough. To walk is to take your time. Absorb your surroundings. Breathe the air, take in and experience the world. Walking provides something that no other form of transportation can provide and this Sabbath I will be unpacking this idea of walking and how important going on a walk with God truly is.
