Holding Patterns
There are few things more frustrating than hearing the pilot's announcement that your flight is in a holding pattern. How long? Why? What is the problem? When will this end? We have this anticipation to arrive at our destination. Perhaps it is visiting family or friends or maybe it's that dream vacation that you have been planning. You begin to feel this urgency to land so that you can begin your journey. After the delay...the voice comes over the speaker. The runway is clear and your flight is ready to land, and finally, your decent begins.
A holding pattern is defined in the Websters dictionary as: A state of waiting or suspended activity or progress. Perhaps it seems as if God is in a holding pattern. The world is on a cosmic collision course with eternity, and there may appear to be a protracted delay for the second coming of Jesus.
The Bible says in Titus 2:11-13 “For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world; looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ.”
The signs foretold in prophesy are fast fulfilling around us. The second coming is one of the pillars of Bible truth. It is even in our name, Seventh Day Adventists. The word Advent means the belief in the return of Jesus. So because there appears to be a delay in His return, is it possible that we have become complacent because of this appeared delay?
We should have our eyes on the signs of the times and we need to be an urgent people. Urgency is defined as something being important that requires swift action. Therefore, should our urgency be rooted and grounded in the second coming of Jesus or does the Bible place our urgency on something else? This Sabbath, we will look at where we should place our urgency.--
God Bless Christopher Camacho
