Keeping Score

What does ONE point mean to you? Well, in sports, one point can be the difference between victory and defeat. Throughout life’s history, mankind has been trying to one up each other. To see who is fastest, richest, smartest, most powerful.

Unfortunately, some of us has taken this game of points into our most important relationships. We start to keep score. Love became transactional, rather than covenantal. We treat others differently because behind every one person is a score, I am not talking literally, but we know there is a point system. We tend to keep away from people who have a “lower” score, because they don’t offer much. We love, because we are loved.

In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent his Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins. 1 John 4:10

You know who doesn’t keep score? God. If there was some kind of score sheet, there would be only one person with a positive score. We have all sinned, we have all fallen, we don’t even want to know what our score is, or lack of. Jesus, knows we don’t measure up, but I don’t think Jesus holds that against us. He loves us, not because we are good in any way. He loves us, because He has decided to.

To know you are accepted just as you are. To know that the King of the universe cares of you. To know that love can transform our soul. We live for Jesus, not because we are forced in any way, we serve Him because in Jesus we find the joy we had always been seeking for. We all know the score, Jesus wins.
